At Sundowners Overland the safety of our clients is paramount. When world events occur we consult a number of sources and evaluate the situation before making any operational changes to current or upcoming itineraries. These include government advisories and the World Health Organisation appraisals, the expert and in depth knowledge of our local partners who are constantly monitoring condition, as well as assessments by our Tour Leaders who provide an immediate response from our destinations.
We always endeavour to provide an alternative that will not diminish the overall experience of your journey when itineraries have to change. In extreme situations we may choose to cancel departures.
We would encourage you to ensure that you have comprehensive insurance prior to travel and to do some research on the destinations that you are travelling to. Our Travel Advisors will happily provide you with more information as required.
The best way to receive up-to-date government advice on specific countries is to familiarise yourself with your nationality’s government travel advisory website:
Australia: www.smartraveller.gov.au , 1300 139 281
New Zealand: www.safetravel.govt.nz
UK: www.fco.gov.uk/travel, 0845 850 2829

Sundowners Overland Travel to Russia
Updated 11 March 2014
Sundowners Overland does not operate tours to the Ukraine or the Crimean Peninsula region. We are monitoring the current political situation which is unfolding in the Ukraine and listening to the advice of DFAT and other Foreign Offices. In addition we work closely with our local partners on the ground in Russia for up to date information.
At this stage neither the Australian or British Foreign Office have changed their travel advice for Russia. While these developments in the Ukraine are unfortunate there are no repercussions within Russia.
Sundowners Overland will continue to provide you with full visa support for your journey.
Travel to Iran
Updated 11 March 2014
As with all regions in which we run tours, we are currently closely monitoring the security situation in Iran in conjunction with our local partners and the considerable resources of relevant government agencies. At this point in time we have received no advice that would prompt us to amend itineraries for any of our upcoming journeys which travel through Iran.
Should the need arise, we have the ability to amend itineraries at short notice and re-route through neighbouring countries if necessary. If this occurs we will communicate directly with any affected clients to make alternative arrangements.
